Franchise Opportunities vsStarting from Scratch

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

I have often been asked what the best way to start a business is You can purchase a franchise or start your own business from the ground up. Both have benefits and downfalls.

There are many franchises available to buy.Franchises are everywhere. Franchises are typically founded on a tried and tested business model. When you buy a franchise, you can usually rest assured that every aspect of your new business has already been considered by someone. There are many different franchises available. Some will give you the business name, equipment and everything you need for start up, others only give you the basics and you still have to buy or lease a location, purchase equipment and the inventory you will need.

The negatives of buying a franchise however are that There is little room for creativity on your part, and of course the initial outlay. Visit the Key Mergers website for more information or if you would like to f you would like to buy a business or even to sell one.

Starting your own business from scratch however means that you can grow the business organically over time, you can limit your initial outlay and you can be as creative with the direction of your business as you like. Depending on how novel your new enterprise is, it is possible that your will have a steep testing curve and will have to make all of your own connections.

So, as you have probably gathered by now, the rational for choosing whether to buy a franchise or follow your own path are multi-dimensional Its a choice only you can make.

How Most Business Owners Sabotage Their Success

Monday, July 7th, 2008

Owning a business is a challenging endeavor. If you’re like many novice small business owners, you’ve taken numerous risks with your time and your money, only to see all of your efforts producing little or no result. This can leave you frustrated and ready to give up. That’s no surprise. The more we focus on the negative parts of owning a small business the more negative results we will attract. Learning how to deal with obstacles is the key to avoiding failure. Those small business owners who never learn to deal with obstacles will often become overwhelmed and end their business. Negative thinking is the center of the small business failure scenario.

So how do you stop being so negative? By consistently staying focused on
success you can start attracting in your life the results you desire. Now if you’ve ever read a self-help book or watched a talk show you’ve heard all this before. And you probably feel like it’s all talk. But there’s a reason why you have heard so much about changing your outlook. Quite simply, there’s truth to how our own thinking impacts our environment.

It’s often difficult to hear super-successful individuals talk about thinking positive. Inside you feel like it’s easy for them to say because they’re successful. But many successful business owners today have built their businesses from the ground up. Many of them started with little or no money, which may be your situation as well. What makes them different from the countless number of entrepreneurs that try and fail each year is one thing. Their belief in themselves. So take some time evaluating that inner-voice that’s always telling you that you’re not going to make it. If you tell your self you won’t make a successful business, you’re absolutely right. If you tell yourself there is no way you will fail, you’re still absolutely right. Below is a quick guide to changing your outlook and which will help you change your results.

  1. Take note of any negative thinking and immediately correct yourself.
  2. Focus on all you’ve managed to accomplish:Write a daily to do list and continuously praise yourself every time you’ve managed to check something off. Think about other accomplishments as well such as obtaining a new customer or creating a new product.
  3. Create a new set of realistic goals: Re-write your business plan based on solid research. For example, the average click through rate for a banner is 1% - 2%. So you wouldn’t want to set a goal of receiving 10% from your banner campaign.
  4. Visualize your success daily:See yourself as having reached your goals. How does it feel? What would you do? How would you treat yourself? Keep this in mind every time you feel self-doubt emerging.
  5. Retreat from negative people and surroundings: Log on to small business forums and talk with people who share your struggle. Offer and accept suggestion on time management, working with family, and minimizing costs.

Consistency is the key. Don’t let a day go by when you don’t put in practice the things listed above. Better yet, try adding things to the list above that you know will keep you in a good mood such as exercise, daily walks, and time with your family. You’ll be able to change your business and see results immediately.

Does it all mean that you risk less when going for paid solutions? No. What it means is that before making a choice on what PC security software to choose depending on your particular needs you should consult with someone with sufficient experience, or read some reviews at least. Alerts are critical so that if someone else uses Bill’s computer and loads spyware/malware you find out immediately.

Banning children from computers or allowing using it only when parents are supervising the process is not a good solution. Besides producing a negative impact on relations with you child, this also makes it harder for your offspring to compete with other children, as the Internet these days gives certain social and academic advantages. However, the Internet should be filtered, there’s absolutely no doubt. So what is the solution? Data loggers, key loggers are just a few programs which harvest info from your computer. Winclear is the only program created specially to auto remove such spywares. com/acct/balance. That is why every computer owner needs winclear.

The average pedophile will victimize between 50-150 children before he comes to the attention of law enforcement. A large and growing number of predators have gravitated towards the internet, reasoning that browsing the personal profiles children themselves post on instant message services and anonymously lurking in chat rooms is less risky and more effective than hanging around playgrounds and schoolyards. The number of predators using the internet to groom children for future exploitation rises every month. Winclear is the only software which is capable of removing keylogger programs. Another common myth regarding PC security software is that “free antivirus” or “free antispyware” is worse than “paid versions” of same products. In fact, we’re talking about feature-limited editions - less controls, simpler admin panels, no live support, etc. But signature databases are same as with paid software, because engineers cannot waste time coding separate databases for users of free and paid programs. It would be silly. Such software monitors computer activity and saves the report in special files so that the parents can later check it out and make conclusions.

If you have checked all the computers used to access your account with only an anti virus software we strongly recommend you use a software that specifically checks for Spyware and keyloggers. That is why every computer owner needs winclear.

A couple based in Philadelphia was recently arrested for their illegal use of the spyware program Spector, which is a widely available program that anyone can buy for under $100. Spector is a keylogger, and once installed on a computer it has the ability to record all keystroke activity and send it out to virtually anyone-including cyber criminals. Spector is able to record information such as passwords, credit cards, social security numbers, and other sensitive information. Winclear is the only software which is capable of removing keylogger programs. If you visit a pet store online and commonly look at cat products the store will install a cookie that saves your preferences and tracks which pages you look at not only telling the company what their customers are viewing but giving you targeted results on the front page. Achievements Outweigh Education and Experience

Friday, June 6th, 2008

Q: When it comes to succeeding in business, which do you think is more important: education or experience?
– Regina M.

A: Regina, have you seen the television show, Fear Factor? If you haven’t seen it you’ve probably heard about it. Fear Factor is the show where they put contestants through all sorts of pseudo-death defying feats like bungee jumping off a bridge over a pool of crocodiles and driving a car through a wall of fire (you know, the stuff we did for fun in high school).

The contestant who overcomes their personal fear factor wins the cash and prizes (usually at the cost of their dignity, but I digress).

The highlight of Fear Factor is the eating competition. That’s when contestants are invited to partake of all sorts of culinary fare. Yummy stuff like monkey brains, all manner of live bugs and spiders, moose intestines, old fruitcake (the horror!), and my personal favorite, live giant worms. At this point the competition becomes not so much who can overcome their fear actor, but who has the lowest gag reflex.

Your question makes me feel a little like those contestants, Regina, because no matter how I answer I am opening a can of giant worms that I will undoubtedly be forced to eat later.

My highly educated peers will argue that education is much more important than experience, while my highly experienced peers will argue that experience is more important. Either way, it’s worms ala carte for me.

Oh well, I’ve eaten more than my share of crow over the years.

How much worse can worms be?

It’s important to understand that the success of an entrepreneur is not measured by how much education he or she has or how many years of experience are under his or her belt. An entrepreneur’s success is measured by achievements, not words on a resume.

By definition, an entrepreneur is a risk-taking businessperson: someone who sets up and finances new commercial enterprises to make a profit. Entrepreneurs start businesses. The smart ones then hire MBAs to run them.

Let’s start with education. Is a Bachelor’s degree or better required to succeed in business? Of course not. An MBA from Harvard might give you a leg up in a job interview, but it certainly doesn’t guarantee that you will succeed in business. Nor does it automatically mean that you will be a better business person than someone who didn’t finish high school. Knowledge is a good thing - if you know what to do with it.

Perhaps it is the academic environment itself that turns mere mortal nerds into budding entrepreneurs. The late ’90s proved that college students with no experience beyond organizing a frat keg party could start businesses that would exceed all expectations.

Many would argue that the key to success for most of these ventures was that the founders (or the VC financing them) were smart enough to know that while they had an abundance of education, they needed experienced managers to really run the show.

Larry Page and Sergey Brin were college students when they started the company that would become Google. They were smart enough to bring in Eric Schmidt to be chairman and CEO when the business took off. Schmidt was the former CEO of Novell and CTO of Sun Microsystems. A PhD, Schmidt is a man of education and experience.

Jerry Yang and David Filo were candidates in Electrical Engineering at Stanford when they started YAHOO (Yet Another Hierarchical Officious Oracle) in 1994. They brought in Tim Koogle from Motorola to run things shortly thereafter and now the company is led by Terry Semel, who previously spent 24 years running Warner Bros.

Now on to experience. Is experience a prerequisite of business success? Again, not at all. Many experienced entrepreneurs gained their experience in failed businesses, so experience does not instantly translate to success.

So, when it comes to succeeding in business, which is more important: education or experience? While neither is as helpful as a rich relative, here’s the answer that will hopefully help me avoid those worms: Both education and experience can play a large part in business success.

The more important question is can you succeed in business without one or the other, or even without both? And the answer to that one is: yes. Can I get ketchup with those worms?

Many successful businesses were started by first time entrepreneurs who never went to college. Natural talent, ambition, drive, determination, and good old dumb luck have fueled many success entrepreneurs, myself included. I don’t have a degree (I drove past a college once. It looked hard, so I kept going). Would a degree have helped make my business trek easier? Perhaps.

Then again, I know people with advanced degrees who are flipping burgers at McDonalds. It’s good experience, I suppose.

A combination of education and experience (and a variety of other things) is the best recipe for success. As the old saying goes, “There is no better education than that which comes from experience.”

In the end, it really doesn’t matter how much education, experience, talent, luck or money you have. It’s what you do with it that matters.

Here’s to your success.

Create a Culture for Success: How to Win Big Using 4 Small Steps

Friday, June 6th, 2008

What is a culture for success? How do we ensure that we get the best results from the people we work with or for? Many people think of success in organizations as belonging solely to the marketing dept - “we’ve brought in
$10million in sales” or finance - “our stock price has doubled in the last six months.” But each of us is responsible for the success of our organizations.

No matter what department we work in.

Creating a culture for success requires that we look at everything we do and see how it fits into the whole. Then, we look to the processes that could be changed or improved in order for the organization to be successful.

These 4 steps can add up to winning big.

Communicate optimism.

Begin by looking at yourself. Do you radiate success? When you come to work do you hum “take this job and shove it” or do you energetically belt out “don’t rain on my parade”? Are you optimistic about how the day will go and do you communicate that optimism to everyone you come in contact with? It doesn’t take much to communicate optimism. A smile - an encouraging word - a zest for the work at hand - they all help to convey positive demeanor.

Don’t blame the competition.

So you’ve got really tough competitors out there? Sneaky, underhanded, unethical- making up rumors about you- they’re just looking for any opportunity to steal your clients away from you. I don’t think so.
Competition will always be with us. And not everyone will do business the way you want to. But…how did they get it in the first place? What was missing in your product or service? Look at your weakness and confront it. Then do something about it. Your competition can’t steal business from you. You don’t own those revenues, the clients do. It’s up to them to make sure they’re getting the best product or service or value for the dollars being spent.

Identify simple improvements.

You don’t have to concentrate on just the big jobs that need to be done.
Sometimes the best improvements are the simple ones. A rain drop doesn’t end a drought but many rain drops will.

Never say “can’t”.

This is a personal favorite. I’ve sat in many meetings listening to people say “can’t” to the solutions that would create successful products or promotions. For example, you don’t know if the marketing campaign you are working on is bringing in the specific type of accounts you wanted because you can’t mine the database properly. Well, figure out how you can. Even if a solution is an up-front cost- figure how much will it cost you not to implement. Don’t be afraid to use simple solutions. Can’t automate a process right now? Figure out how it can be done by hand. There is always a work around solution to a problem.

Creating a culture for success isn’t really that difficult. It doesn’t always require in-depth market research or focus groups. It does require that each person in an organization take personal responsibility to be as successful as possible. Whether it’s a business, social, religious, or fraternal organization, creating a culture for success starts with you.

Starting Your Own Nursing Agency Business

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

It’s no secret that the United States has a nursing shortage, one that promises to grow to alarming proportions. Too many nurses are retiring, and too few are entering the profession. To compound the problem, within the next 5 to 10 years, over 76 million Baby Boomers are scheduled to retire from the workforce, with only about 44 million Generation X’ers available to pick up the slack. This will soon place unprecedented demands for services on a health system that is already stretched thin.

This shortage of allied healthcare professionals, especially nurses have a created a new boom to the nursing agency registry business, supplemental staffing agency for medical professionals, permanent placement medical recruiter, or starting a business in homecare and staffing pool. The medical staffing industry will continue to grow because of the upcoming baby boomers, and the current supply of nurses are dwindling. The average age for nurses are in the forties, and they are not being replaced by the new generations. Entrepreneurs have made lucrative business in nursing agency, nursing registry, homecare business, medical recruiter recruiting, or as independent contractor in their own field.

The time is now for entrepreneurs to start a nursing agency, nursing registry business, operate a homecare business, or as a medical recruiter or just become an independent healthcare contractor. By being an independent healthcare contractor, you are bypassing the agency and are self employed. Healthcare facilities are the clients. Homecare are regulated by all levels of goverment from local to fedeal level. Homecare levels of regulations depends on the category of service provided to clients. Homecare services ranges from providing just companions or the more medically needed clients such as terminally ill clients. Homecare services can be in the form of social service, non-medical, and medical services.

House Cleaning Business - The Professional Business

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

Most people get into house cleaning to earn some extra money.
You may have family, friends and neighbors as your regular
clients. Are you ready and motivated to take your part-time
business to the next level?

Growing any business takes time and patience. And if you have a
loyal client base now, set aside a portion of your gross revenue
for advertising, custom business forms and your own products and
equipment.

Expanding your house cleaning business also takes planning. How
can you start getting new clients without a large advertising
budget? A small one-time investment in custom business forms is
the first step.

So what’s wrong with not using business forms? Absolutely
nothing if you’re satisfied with your client base right now and
not interested in making more money.

But I hear from a lot of professional house cleaners that are
struggling in their business. They wonder why they don’t get
more of the jobs they bid on. They ask why people won’t pay
their rate and instead want to negotiate the price down.

If you’re not presenting yourself as a professional cleaning
business, your prospects assume you just need to make some extra
money; you don’t have their respect and they think you’ll be
happy to take whatever they offer to pay.

Now think about this for a minute. Who would you be more likely
to hire: the plumber that shows up to estimate your job with a
clipboard and custom business forms or the plumber that shows up
with a flyer? Be honest with yourself; you are going to trust
this plumber inside your home around your personal possessions.
What if this person were to break or damage something? Do you
think about this issue with the plumber with the clipboard and
custom business forms, or is it more of a concern with the
plumber with just the flyer?

Your prospects are judging you and forming an opinion from the
moment you answer their call. And you know what they say about
first impressions? It’s absolutely true in running a business.
Not only are they judging you before they hire you, but they
judge you again when you arrive on the scheduled service date.

- Use the Service Agreement to define your terms of doing
business and to document the service for each client. This form
performs a dual purpose as it is also your estimating form that
you use during your in-home or telephone bidding. You will
discuss the content with your prospect and then have them sign
it, not as a contract, but to provide you and them with an
understanding of your terms and the service start date. - The
Customer Checklist records your estimate for your new client and
has all the cleaning tasks listed that you perform. This form
alone can get you the job immediately or even later after your
prospect has tried other services.

- The Work Order is created from the important notes you
recorded on the Service Agreement during the walk through or
telephone interview. It specifies the client, the address and
phone number, information pertaining to pets in the home, client
specific requests and directives, including important notes you
documented about the home.

The Service Checklist is used by you or your team on the
scheduled service date. It is a reminder of the regular service
tasks that are to be performed and is used to maintain quality.
One of the biggest complaints from clients is that quality
deteriorates over time. If you’re not using a Service Checklist,
you’re not instilling trust in your clients, especially new
clients. They will auto- matically check your work on every
appointment to make sure you didn’t miss anything. And if you
did, you’ll hear about it - quick!

When you start to use business forms for your existing clients,
they will probably ask you why the sudden change. This provides
you with a chance to tell them that you’re expanding your
business and would appreciate referrals. This leaves them
impressed and knowing that you are serious about running a
professional business and will be more likely to make referrals.

Custom business forms speak loudly to your prospects and in the
long run land you more jobs, referrals and larger profits for
your house cleaning business!
